Looking Back at Greene County

Picture
Picture
These 2 pictures are of one of the first underground irrigation systems in Greene County.

Picture
These 2 pictures were taken in 1939. Cultivating had to stop due to the serious erosion problem. Little or no effort was made to stop the gullies and as a result, approximately 35 acres of this 80 acre farm gullied to such an extent that reforestation was the only practical treatment. This farm was one of the first settled communities on Crowley's Ridge.
